About the stone:

 Unlike quartz and many other gemstones, opal is amorphous, meaning it lacks a regular, repeating crystal structure. This unusual characteristic makes it particularly interesting from a mineralogical perspective. Opal develops when silica-rich water deposits silica in cracks, cavities, or spaces within rocks. Over long periods, these deposits can gradually form beautiful opal masses.
